Health Promotion and Wellness serves as the campus resource for wellness and preventive health by providing a variety of programming and services. A balanced, healthy, and engaged workforce is more productive and also furthers a wellness-centered culture on campus.

Our vision is to be known for igniting a culture of wellness at Illinois State University. Health Promotion and Wellness upholds this vision by remaining true to our core values of being credible, compassionate, culturally competent, holistic, inclusive, innovative, and passionate about the connection between determinants of health, social justice, and health equity.

We believe that people living, learning and working in a healthy environment are more likely to reach their highest potential. This is achieved by engaging campus partners and leaders in a high-level commitment to advance the health and well-being of all members within our community; intentional consideration is given to vulnerable populations and underrepresented groups.

Principles of Practice

  • Programs and services address the health and wellness needs of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Programs and services are theory-based, evidence-informed, and designed to meet needs identified through data.
  • Program planning and evaluation considers the diverse needs of the campus, with particular attention to vulnerable and high-risk populations.
  • Collaboration with campus and community stakeholders is key to program effectiveness.
  • Effective communication and marketing contribute to the advancement of wellness.
  • Behavior change occurs on the individual, and community level. To change behavior we use educational and environmental strategies.
  • Staff integrate cultural competency, social justice, and health equity concepts into programs and services.
