Lifestyle Enhancement Program

Lifestyle Enhancement classes support faculty, staff, their families, ISU retirees, and alumni. Most programs are scheduled during the workday for easier access to wellness opportunities that promote personal well-being.

Wellness Participation Policy

Since 1984, Illinois State University has upheld a Wellness Participation Policy to support the well-being of faculty and staff, allowing employees to request up to 90 minutes per week for personal wellness activities.

Lifestyle Enhancement Classes

2024/2025 Sessions:
Fall Session: 08/19/24 - 12/22/24
Spring Session: 01/06/25 - 05/11/25
Summer Session: 05/10/25 - 08/17/25

Prior to taking classes participants will need to:

  1. Register for classes
  2. Complete and return* the Par-Q Form and Waiver Form
  3. Pay fees associated with the class**

** ISU Faculty and Staff may also elect to use Payroll Deduction to pay class fees. Payroll Deduction Formmay be turned in via:

Badminton

Founded in 1967, the Badminton group includes experienced players, some of whom have medaled in the Senior Olympic Games but is also open to all skill levels.

  • Coordinators: Dr. Mathew Nadakavukaren, Dr. Bob Preston, and Donna Shippy. Contact Donna Shippy for questions about clinics and joining the group.
  • Schedule: Badminton Clinics held on the first Wednesday of each month.
  • Fees: $55 yearly for ISU Affiliates, $110 yearly for Community Members

Balanced Bellies and Backs

Aimed at maintaining a healthy spine, this class emphasizes flexibility and core strengthening.

Yoga

Experience the traditional practice of hatha yoga.

T'ai Chi

Based on the evidence-based approach developed by Yang Yang, who introduced T'ai Chi at Illinois State in 1993, this class series focuses on improving strength, neuromuscular control, and balance through Chen Style T'ai Chi and qigong training.

Table Tennis

  • Coordinator: Marty Greenberg
  • Schedule: Saturdays 8pm to 11:55 pm, Thomas Metcalf Small Gym
  • Fees: $55 yearly for ISU Affiliates, $80 yearly for Community Members
