Live Well with Eight at State

LIVE WELL with Eight at State is a free program that promotes healthy living for Illinois State University students, staff, and faculty. It focuses on eight dimensions of wellness: emotional, environmental, financial, intellectual, physical, social, spiritual, and vocational.

Participation is easy—join the program, complete wellness assessments, and track activities that align with these dimensions. LIVE WELL hosts monthly challenges and sends weekly motivational messages. Participants earn points for their activities and can choose incentives after logging ten activities.

Eight Dimensions of Wellness

Emotional Wellness

Emotional Wellness focuses on understanding, accepting, and expressing a wide range of thoughts and feelings within yourself and in relationships with others. Achieving optimal Emotional Wellness fosters positive self-esteem, satisfying relationships, and the resilience to navigate life’s challenges.

Environmental Wellness

Environmental Wellness emphasizes living in harmony with the earth and your surroundings by recognizing the impact of your actions and taking steps to protect the environment. Optimal Environmental Wellness involves creating opportunities to relax, reflect, and restore your senses, while also contributing to the health of the natural world.

Financial Wellness

Financial Wellness is about achieving a healthy relationship with money through knowledge, planning, and goal setting. Optimal Financial Wellness is not about wealth; it’s about making informed financial decisions that help you live within your means, prepare for unexpected expenses, and work toward long-term goals.

Intellectual Wellness

Intellectual Wellness encourages lifelong learning through education, curiosity, and exploration of new ideas. Achieving optimal Intellectual Wellness means staying open to new perspectives, embracing creativity, and maintaining a sense of humor and curiosity in everyday life .

Physical Wellness

Physical Wellness involves respecting and nurturing your body through healthy habits and self-care. Optimal Physical Wellness includes connecting with your physical self, avoiding harmful behaviors, and striving for a balance of body, mind, and spirit.

Social Wellness

Social Wellness is about fostering meaningful connections and maintaining supportive relationships within your community. Optimal Social Wellness is achieved by building mutual trust, respect, and interdependence within a network of meaningful social relationships.

Spiritual Wellness

Spiritual Wellness focuses on finding harmony between yourself and the larger universe, guided by your core values and beliefs. Optimal Spiritual Wellness connects you to something greater than yourself, inspiring actions that align with your values and purpose.

Vocational Wellness

Vocational Wellness is about finding satisfaction and purpose in expressing your talents, interests, and values through work, hobbies, or community service. Optimal Vocational Wellness comes from aligning your personal values with fulfilling activities that enhance your sense of purpose and contribution.
