Class Descriptions

Wellness classes and activities have a rich history at Illinois State University. Yoga classes have been offered to faculty and staff since 1990. True to our mission, we continue to offer high quality programs led by certified, experienced instructors.

Badminton

This group has been playing at Illinois State since 1967. Players are experienced and play competitively. Several seasoned players have medalled in the Senior Olympics.

Balanced Bellies and Backs

Aimed at maintenance of a healthy spine, this class focuses on strengthening the abdominal and increasing the flexibility of the back.

Instructor:  Michelle Klunke, BA, certified instructor, and has been teaching for Wellness at Illinois State since 2003.

 

Noon Yoga - Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays

Take a break during the workday to experience the traditional practice of hatha yoga. This class is open to people of all levels of practice.

Instructor: Tona Schenck, MA, MFA, certified instructor. Tona has been teaching for Wellness at Illinois State since 2001.

 

T'ai Chi - Evidence Based Training (offered during fall and spring semesters)

Evidence based format follows practice developed by Yang Yang who started T' ai Chi at Illinois State in 1993. Designed to improve strength, neuromuscular force control, and balance. This series of classes will focus on the seven forms of Chen Style T'ai Chi and qigong training.

Instructor: Lilly Meiner, Certified Instructor

 

T'ai Chi - Chen Style (offered during fall and spring semesters)

Traditional Chen style T'ai Chi that involves forms 1 through 12 during fall semester and 13 through 24 during spring semester as well as qigong training. T'ai Chi is often referred to as moving meditation.
