The University Health Education Coordinating Council (UHECC), now known as the University Wellness Council, was established in 1989 to address University-wide health and wellness issues that impact all members of the campus community.
This is accomplished by bringing together key faculty, staff, students, and community members who provide direct programs or have an expertise in a specific area of wellness. Over the the past 21 years, members have been involved in developing, recommending and/or reviewing various institution-wide policies affecting individual health, campus well-being, and by providing seed money for new initiatives that address the priorities and goals set by the council. In 2008 members of the council authored Goal 5 of Educating Illinois, and the mission and goals of the Wellness Council are strategically aligned with the strategic plan, "Educate • Connect • Elevate" and the academic mission of Illinois State University. The council now furthers the Healthy Campus 2020 Initiative at Illinois State University.
